SCHREIBER AND TERRACE BAY GUESTBOOK

• Signed by Laura-Lee Rawlyk on February 6 2013

I was born in Terrace Bay. I have never had the opportunity to return to Terrace Bay. My Mother's maiden name is Beverley Jean McCallum. Beverley was born in Schreiber. She often tells stories of her childhood growing up there. One of my Mum's little stories is, if you come from Schreiber you knew what Nipigeon Nylons wear was.

My family and I recently went through your town on our way to Thunder Bay. It was a Saturday and we blew a radiator hose into the engine of our truck. Luckily, we were able to coast our way to Speziale's Pro Hardware and NAPA Auto Parts and they were very helpful in fixing the problem, roadside. Not the best conditions to meet new people, but there was a good vibe, and we were able to fix our problem and carry on. Thank you!!

I was introduced to Schreiber by John McGrath and met many wonderful people and the scenary in the area is fantastic. I still think about the town and the people and how very nice they all were to me.
Great place and sorry to hear the North Stars/Diesels have discontinued.

Recently I visited my family in Terrace Bay and was completely overwhelmed by the transformation of your downtown area.

As I stood at the top of the lighthouse it was amazing to see the continuity and blending of design. So much thought, hard work and planning by all of you has truly made Terrace Bay Ontario "The Gem of the North" .

My sincere congratulations and a very big pat on the back to each and everyone of you for a "Job well done".

We have been coming to the Terrace Bay Dragfest for 11 years to race. I have never met such nice people in all my life. Thanks to "Amy" at Wah's for her kindness and staying open for us to eat after a long day at the track. The volunteers at the track are the best. Hi to Danny & Cathy, Chris, Sharshay, Lara and many more, you did a great job. Thanks to Terry B and the fire dept for volunteering their time too. This is my holiday time and I love and look forward to it every year. You guys all "Rock".

I was born in Terrace Bay and until my early teens, lived at 556 Superior Ave. Looking through the numerous photos on this site and watching related videos on YouTube brought back many fond memories of my time in Terrace Bay. The beauty of Lake Superior, the majestic forests and picturesque scenery that stretch between the towns of Terrace Bay & Schreiber right through to Thunder Bay leaves all travellers with a sense of tranquillity and serenity.
I am grateful for the Internet and how far we have come where beauty such as this can be brought into your home in a single click.
Kudos on an excellent site and for opening Terrace Bay's gates to the cyber world.
cheers
Edward (Montréal, Québec)

Just drove through Terrace Bay and we were blown away by the work being done in the downtown. We have always thought this was the prettiest town in Ontario and now it looks like it will be even nicer. Good job by everyone involved! We will definitely see you again in the Spring and can't wait to check out the light house.

I have ancestors in Schreiber...some of the McCuaigs of Thomas McCuaig who spent time there in the 1870's & 1880's. He died there in 1917 in a rail accident at Schreiber train stn. I feel connected in a "far away-long ago" way. Perhaps I will visit someday. lomarsh11@gmail.com

I lived there from 1958 until 1962 and enjoyed life there.

After coming from England in 1957, I quickly became Canadianized in the friendly atmosphere of the small friendly town

We just moved to Terrace Bay and absolutely love it here! The people are so friendly and there is so much to do outside from hiking to boating to fishing to swimming, we love it! Now just get that mill up and running and everything will be perfect.

We drove through Terrace Bay last week and think it is easily the prettiest town along Lake Superior. We were told about your downtown revitalization project and think your community is doing great things at tough times. We will be coming back next year to check it out! Good job, Will, Marsha, Timmy, and Trigger.

I grew up in Schreiber & come back once a year to see family. I was absolutely blown away with all the work, planning & activities that were done up for the 125th birthday celebration during Heritage days in July. Everyone did such an excellent job & I was very impressed with all that was accomplished. Thank you to all the residents that provided free food, time & services. For a small town that is having it's share of financial problems you really gave generously in so many areas. My brother Dale, sisters Shirley and Linda, all agree It's one of the best times we've had in Schreiber & it was fantastic to see many old friends & former residents. There really is something very special about a small town!

Schreiber 125th, Congrats to the committee, volunteers and Schreiberians for an amazing job. I grew up in Schreiber and have many wonderful memories, the week we spent with family and friends will be forever etched in our minds. Thank you all.

My wife and I were completely "blown away" by the incredible 125th celebration held by the town of Schreiber. For a small community to put together a week of activities on that kind of scale is nothing short of amazing!! The venues were decorated with murals and photos depicting the history of Schreiber, the heritage train rides were great, the food was fantastic, and most of all the spirit of the volunteers at all of the activities made me proud to say I once lived there. The people still living in the area who volunteered to put this on deserve one heck of big pat on the back for a job well done. I can't thank you enough for producing a week that I will remember forever!!

We were doing a project about Schreiber in school, and we needed history of the town.. someone should put some history of Schreiber on this website! :)

Administrator Note: the history of Schreiber is found in the tourism section under visitor information and can also be found by googling Schreiber history as it is the third webpage listed.
